I try to avoid arguing with liberals. And I recommend the same to you.
But maybe, just maybe, deep down I actually enjoy it.
A few weeks I go I wrote about G.K. Chesterton’s fence analogy. Today, I am back with another book on the subject.
Well, it’s not quite a book. It’s only 20 pages long. It could have been posted as a lengthy article, but instead is just 99 cents on Kindle.
How to Debate Leftists and Destroy Them by Ben Shapiro walks you through the mindset of a liberal and their debate tactics. Hint: It’s not very complex! He provides 11 steps to destroy them in debates with examples to back up each step.
But first, he lays out what it is that makes liberals tick and itch for debates with “evil right-wingers”:
This is what makes leftists leftists: an unearned sense of moral superiority over you.
Leftists don’t have a moral superiority over you though. Don’t let them try and hold that over your head!
When Should You Debate A Leftist?
Debating a leftist can get you in a lot of trouble. That’s why I avoid talking about politics in the workplace, or at the very least smile and nod when the subject comes up.
In a place where you can debate politics and wish to make sure there is an audience:
Third, you should debate a leftist if there is an audience. The goal of the debate will not be to win over the leftist, or to convince him or her, or to be friends with him or her. That person already disagrees with you, and they’re not going to be convinced by your words of wisdom and your sparkling rhetorical flourishes. The goal will be to destroy the leftist in as public a way as is humanly possible.
How to Handle Name Calling
Racist, sexist, anti-gay!! Or whatever liberals are chanting these days they’ll fire upon you. Why? That’s all they got.
The left doesn’t have a playbook. They have a play. One play. The play: you’re a jerk. they have a play. One play! The play is you’re nasty. Take that away from them, and they have nothing.
What you must not do is try and explain this name-calling away. Don’t convince them you’re not a racist–they don’t care. Instead:
The proper response to a charge that you beat your wife is not to explain that you don’t beat your wife and are in fact an ardent feminist: it’s to point out that throwing around accusations without evidence makes your opponent a piece of garbage.
Don’t Seek, But Destroy!
I don’t recommend searching for an argument, whether in person or online. But if people start hammering away at you with their political beliefs, this brief guide will provide you helpful tips to fend yourself off and embarrass your opponents in the process.
