If you want to do everything you should be doing in a daily routine like fitness, reading, making money, eating healthy and having fulfilling relationships, you’re going to have to find a way to schedule all these things into your life. This is just one of the goals of How to Get Organized by Will Freemen.
Will’s book covers a lot more than habit forming and goals. He hits on the proper mindset for organization, the best apps to help you achieve your goals and other concepts like outsourcing.
Sometime last year I bought a copy of the Miracle Morning. I wanted to perfect my morning routine and was hoping this book could help.
The book gets a lot of praise, but I couldn’t finish it. The author spends way too much talking about the ‘power’ and ‘beauty’ of the morning routine. There is too much woo-woo nonsense.
I have no patience for this.
If I want to enhance my productivity, then why would I waste time reading fluff that doesn’t get straight to the point?
Will’s book, like his other works, gets right to the point. After the first chapter, everything written tells you specifically how to get something done.
The book is relatively short, at just over 70 pages. It is, however, an efficient guide book for implementing organizational and productivity habits.
Step One: Purge!
After reading this section I went into my room and looked at all my clothes: Dozens of t-shirts that I had amassed over the years that I never wore. Little knick-knack souvenirs. And so many books!
I am not a big fan of material goods, so I don’t needlessly acquire things. That said, all of us on occasion find that we have things piling up.
There’s a good chance you probably have too much stuff in your house. Whether its clothes, silverware, or old DVD’s you could probably get rid of some things. Not only does this reduce clutter (both mental and physical), but it means less trash and stuff piling up.
The Best Apps for Organization
This was definitely my favorite section. In fact, I’m going back a second time to read these sections thoroughly.
I already have my own complex organization system, a big calendar, and an Evernote, but I still learned a lot. For example, I’ve now overhauled my Evernote to make navigation much easier!
I also downloaded Wunderlist—a task management and to-do list app. Will walks you through step-by-step how to become a master.
Goal Setting, Projects, Lists and More
Let’s say you want to build a 6-figure online business. Well, what is your plan to get there?
To achieve a goal, you should write it down. Put it on one of these apps so that you can visualize what you need to get done.
And these projects also require effective management. This means that you must be able to assign different projects due dates and timeframes which is covered in the book as well.
You’ll also find ways to create shopping lists and ideas for outsourcing in the book. These are all great ways to become more productive.
It’s Time to Get Your Life in Order
Fourteen years ago Will walked into his filthy home and was disgusted. He decided it was time to get his shit together.
Look around you.
How clean is your home?
How ‘tidy’ is your mind? Do you have tons of ideas and ‘things to do’ floating around in your mind, but feeling overwhelmed how to handle all of them?
Do you keep talking about starting an online business, but never seem to ‘have the time’?
Are you always late and missing appointments?
The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that all closed systems tend to maximize entropy (i.e. disorder and mess). You’re no exception to the laws of the universe.
The longer you wait the worse it is going to get. Take action right now!
