When I first read The Game by Neil Strauss, my mind was opened to a whole new world. The possibility of meeting a pretty girl, saying a few lines and having her naked was dumbfounding.
Needless to say it wasn’t this easy.
I was around 16 when first exposed to The Game and the PUA industry. I wasn’t going out to nightclubs like these guys were. Moreover, I was still afraid to talk to girls in high school. It would take me until college to actually accomplish that feat.
These books didn’t help me take any action. And when I did start hitting on girls with more frequency I didn’t use any pickup advice or techniques.
This is why I’ve always viewed seduction and dating books with skepticism.
Picking up chicks doesn’t need to be complicated. Like Chris from Good Looking Loser says just look good and talk to girls.
So who needs all these PUA books?
Revisiting Books on Dating
I broke my rule recently by reading Balls Deep by Nick Krauser. I wanted to explore day game as I was living abroad in Russia and was actually doing some day game approaches. Though the book was an entertaining memoir it taught me a lot about day game.
This differs from my past experiences when I had no intention of talking to women whatsover. Reading those books was a form of mental masturbation. It tricked my mind into thinking that beautiful women were at my fingertips–just out of reach. And somehow reading these books they would be mine.
That’s the catch!
Reading a book does not lead necessarily to taking action. And this goes for all books. Whether it’s a book on self-improvement, finance, or philosophy if you don’t implement what you read you will have gained nothing.
Books on Online Dating and Dating Apps
Books that offer advice on online dating and apps like Tinder (e.g. How to Get Laid on Tinder) are much more conducive to most guys’ dating life. The reason for this is that a man is more likely to message girls online or on Tinder, than he would approach a girl in person because it’s much easier and there is less chance of rejection.
Moreover, it is much easier to stick to a pre-written script online than it is in person.
Who Should Read These Books
There are only a few instances in which you should read these dating books:
- You’re a Novice: If you have just been exposed to the world of seduction, or want to learn how to get good with women.
- You’re Actively Approaching Women: If you are approaching at least one girl a day, or ten each week then I’d say you’re serious enough to warrant greater study.
- Area-Specific Advice on Meeting Women: If you’re looking to get away from Western women, you may be looking for guides to give you insight on how to pickup the natives. For example, if you’re going to Central America you should check out A Bachelor’s Guide to Central America.
These are pretty broad categories. A lot of men fall within those boundaries, but many fall outside as well. Right now, I do. This is why I limit my reading of this genre. Otherwise I’m just lying to myself.
Sure, a lot of these books are entertaining. And if you want to read them for that purpose, then awesome. Just don’t lie to yourself.
Recommended Resources to Get Started
With the numerous options to choose from, it can be hard to get started. Here are two authors/books that I suggest you read:
- Bang, Day Bang (and other books/guides) by Roosh V
- How to Get Laid on Tinder by Will Freeman (Review)
The Bang Guides will provide a comprehensive overview of Game, male/female dynamics, lines and routines, meeting girls in bars, clubs, coffee shops and even different countries.
The latter book has you covered on Tinder.
There are other guys I like including: Krauser, Chris from GLL, 60 Years of Challenge to name a few. But it’s better to pick 1-2 people and just listen to what they have to say before devouring a ton of content.
I haven’t read any other books on online game so I can’t make any other recommendations.
But you don’t need much to get started. Wanting to read twenty books before approaching a girl is insane, and is simply a ploy for you to delay rejection.
Don’t wait. Get started today with one of these books, but only if you really have what it takes to commit yourself to the Game.
